NURS 4431 - Nursing Care of Community Populations

This course builds on previous, concurrent and prerequisite courses and introduces the student to concepts of health promotion and illness prevention in community populations. Students apply nursing theory, research, practice and the nursing process to provide holistic care for communities of various developmental levels, spiritual, ethnocultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Emphasis is placed on collaboration with community members and interdisciplinary health care providers to promote awareness and needs of healthy communities. Students are encouraged to think critically about bioethical and health issues as well as distribution of health care resources, and to communicate effectively on professional, interpersonal and intrapersonal levels.
