HIST 4363 - American Legal and Constitutional History

Examines the American Constitution from its origins until the present day. Topics include drafting the Constitution; the Bill of Rights; the Marshall era; the crises caused by slavery and emancipation; the rise of substantive due process; freedom of speech; the New Deal; the Warren Court, civil liberties and civil rights; criminal justice and the right of privacy; abortion and affirmative action; and the “war on terrorism.”
