NURS 4208 - Nursing Care of Clients with Complex Mental Health Needs

This course builds on concepts learned in NURS 3232 and previous, concurrent and prerequisite courses. Students learn to apply nursing theory, research and practice to clients and families of various developmental levels and diverse spiritual, ethnocultural and socioeconomic backgrounds who are experiencing complex mental health needs. Students utilize the nursing process and communication skills in provision of holistic nursing care to clients and families facing severe mental health stressors in a variety of settings. Emphasis is placed on the challenges of meeting the needs of mentally ill clients and their families and the nurse’s role in addressing associated legal, ethical and economic issues in conjunction with the interdisciplinary health care team.
