EDLE 6348 - Cultural and Societal Patterns Impacting Education

This course is a survey of local, state, national and global conditions affecting schools. It will be organized around four key questions: (1) What is the role of education in society and culture? (2) What is the degree to which culture and societal patterns shape our actions and experiences with education? (3) Why do societal patterns and inequalities persist despite equal rights legislation and the welfare state? (4) What role does education play in shaping or reducing inequality, and what are the levers for change?
