The engineering physics program is the study of the combined disciplines of physics, engineering and mathematics in order to develop an understanding of the interrelationships of these three disciplines. The educational objective is to address the needs of students seeking innovative careers in high-tech areas where multiple engineering disciplines merge (e.g. electro-mechanical industries).

The majority of graduates of the program enter industry in diverse areas such as mechanical controls, digital and analog electronics, nuclear instrumentation, software development, and manufacturing process control. Others choose to attend graduate school in either engineering or physics programs.

Curriculum (120 hours)

Freshman Year (33 hours)

Sophomore Year (32 hours)

Junior Year (28 hours)

Senior Year (28 hours)

Fall

14 hours

Spring

14 hours

Note:

Students who are qualified to take calculus their first semester at SFA can choose to replace MTH 140  and PHY 108  with other courses to bring the degree total to 120 credit hours. Students are encouraged to take math and chemistry courses during the summer to reduce fall and spring semester loads and to decrease the time required for a degree.

The engineering physics program (with either concentration) is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. ABET is a nonprofit, non-governmental organization that accredits college and university programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology.
