Psychology, B.S.

The psychology major curriculum will provide the student with a general background in psychology preparatory for graduate work in the main areas of psychology or for employment. At least 18 of the 26 advanced hours (300-499) must be taken at SFA.

Complete 3 credit hours from MTH courses numbered 133 or higher.

Psychology Sub-Disciplines


Complete three credit hours each from three of the following sub-disciplines:

Advanced Major Electives


Complete 6 credit hours of advanced level (300-499) Psychology electives as advised.

Additional Elective


Complete an additional 3 credit hours in Psychology electives as advised.

4. Minor


An academic minor of at least 18 semester hours, but not more than 24 semester hours, with at least nine advanced hours and at least six advanced at SFA.

5. General Electives


Complete an additional 16 credit hours in electives as advised.

* Life and Physical Science labs included in elective hours.

6. Minimum total hours: 120


Grade Requirements


  • A grade of at least C in each freshman English course (ENG 131 , ENG 132 )
  • A C average in work completed in the major field
  • A C average in work completed in the minor field

The required averages are based on those SFA courses taken in each category that are included in the student’s official degree plan (CAPP).  Transfer and advanced placement coursework are not included in GPA calculations.
