Objectives of the Department

The graduate program has been designed to provide advanced studies leading to the Master of Arts, Master of Fine Arts in studio art, Master of Fine Arts in filmmaking and Master of Arts in art education. Individual programs are arranged to meet the needs of the students and prepare them for careers in art, filmmaking and art education.

A limited number of graduate assistantships are awarded each year in the school. For information and applications, contact the graduate program coordinator for the School of Art.

Admission Requirements

General admission requirements to the MA and MFA programs in studio art are shown elsewhere in this bulletin. In addition to the Office of Research and Graduate Studies’ admission procedures, the School of Art requires a 2.5 GPA overall and 3.0 GPA in the major for clear admission. Applicants must submit directly to the School of Art: a portfolio of 20 works of art on a portable USB drive or an online link; a statement of career goals; and three recommendation forms. The recommendation form is available on the graduate school’s website or upon request.

Exhibition of Student Art

The School of Art reserves the privilege of retaining selected student works for exhibition for a period of 12 months after the work is submitted for grading.
