Objectives

The Department of Computer Science offers a Master of Science in cyber security. The graduate program provides students with hands-on experimentation and research to develop expertise in secure coding and implementation, digital forensics, penetration testing, cyberattack defense, cryptography, malware detection/prevention and cyber data analysis. As part of the program requirements students either partake in an internship or conduct original research in cyber security.  The program is comprised of 36 graduate hours and designed to be completed in two academic years.

Students completing their 120 hour, 4-year undergraduate degree in computer science or computer information systems are able to complete the graduate program in 1 year.

The Department offers graduate study leading to the Master of Science in natural sciences. (See College of Sciences and Mathematics website.) Selected computer science courses may be used as a graduate minor in other areas. A graduate minor consists of at least nine hours. Graduate students also may take computer science courses as electives to support their degree plans.

In addition to utilizing the central computer system that is located in the university computer center, the department maintains multiple research laboratories containing microcomputer systems, robotics, servers, printers and communications equipment with access to the campus network and the internet. In addition, all graduate students are provided office space with computers containing a wide variety of software utilized in their coursework and research.

Student Organizations

The Computer Science Club is sponsored by the Department of Computer Science and is open to all students. This organization should be of particular interest to students who desire to become acquainted with the computing profession, computing professionals and students with similar interests.

Membership in Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the computer science honor society, is for selected juniors, seniors and graduate students who maintain specified scholastic standards. Students who want to be considered for this honor should consult the Delta Chapter faculty advisor or a student officer.
