The online Master of Arts in teaching college social sciences is designed to expose students to some of the main subfields in psychology and sociology, as well as train students to teach undergraduate psychology and sociology courses at community colleges and/or dual credit courses. The program is a joint venture with the Department of Psychology and Department of Anthropology, Geography and Sociology. The curriculum may be of interest to individuals who want to increase their marketability in teaching social sciences by becoming SACS qualified to teach psychology and sociology courses in community colleges and/or dual credit courses.
All students in the program will take coursework in psychology and sociology subfields that are commonly taught at community colleges as well as receive mentorship and training in teaching the subfields. Four of the proposed graduate psychology courses prepare instructors to teach four undergraduate psychology courses in the THECB Field of Study. Similarly, four of the proposed graduate sociology courses prepare instructors to teach four undergraduate sociology courses in the THECB Field of Study.
