Note:

A minimum grade of C is required in all geology courses numbered 2000 or higher to receive the BS in geology. Students must complete CHEM 1311  and CHEM 1312 ; PHYS 1301  and PHYS 1302  or BIOL 2361  and 133 ; and MATH 1342  and MATH 2313  with all co-requisite courses before they can register for GEOL 3338 , GEOL 3664 , GEOL 4308 , GEOL 4320  and GEOL 4343 .

Students at SFA plan their minor program in consultation with a geology advisor. Suggested minors are chemistry, biology, physics, mathematics, business, computer science, geographic information systems and geography.

4. Minor or Geology Concentration

A minor or geology concentration. An academic minor is at least 18 semester hours, but not more than 24 semester hours with at least nine advanced hours and at least six advanced at SFA.

Second Major Programs

The courses in geology required by the major in environmental sciences with environmental geology option (Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture ) or the major in geography with geology minor make it possible for the interested student to complete a second major in geology during the normal four-year period for the bachelor’s degree. Contact the Department of Geology  for advising.

Grade Requirements

• A grade of at least C in each first-year English course (ENGL 1301 , ENGL 1302 )
• A C average in work completed in the major field
• A C average in work completed in the minor field

The required averages are based on those SFA courses taken in each category that are included in the student’s official degree plan (CAPP). Transfer and advanced placement coursework are not included in GPA calculations.
