HIS 349 - African American History

Survey of African-American history from 1619 to the present. Emphasis on the development of racial slavery, the politics of slavery, slave culture, free people of color, emancipation, Jim Crow, the Harlem Renaissance, the black experience in America since World War II, modern African-American culture, the Civil Rights Movement, the rise of Black Power ideology and current trends in African-American studies. Course fee $5.
Prerequisite(s): 6 hours of HIS
