Deaf and Hard of Hearing Minor

A deaf and hard of hearing minor can be acquired by taking the following courses:

• SPH 477 - American Sign Language III Credit(s): 3
• SPH 479 - American Sign Language IV Credit(s): 3
• SPH 274 - Manual Communication Interned Credit(s): 3
• DHH 350 - Access to the Phonemic Code Credit(s): 3
• SPH 414 - Deaf Culture Credit(s): 3
• SPH 470 - Language and Literacy for the Deaf Credit(s): 3
• 25 hours of observation in deaf education settings may be substituted for SPH 470 .

Observation hours must be divided as follows:

10 hours at the elementary level, 10 hours at the secondary level, and five hours at any level. Observation hours must be appropriately documented using an observation log provided by the deaf and hard of hearing program.
