General Business Major
The student pursuing a major in General Business may complete the major with or without a concentration. General Business Core Courses
General Business without a concentration
Systems Course Option
Three hours from: Law, Communication, Technology
Six hours representing two of the following areas: Advanced Business Courses
Twelve advanced hours from the College of Business course prefixes. A maximum of nine hours from any one prefix. Consult your advisor for course options. General Business (Online)
The online BBA in general business allows students who have completed certain required courses and/or equivalents to finish the last two years or more of a degree program through web-based classes. The general business major includes courses selected from various academic disciplines within the Nelson Rusche College of Business . The program is designed for students who are limited by time and distance in their options for completing the BBA. The BBA at SFA is fully accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International, the premier accreditation agency for programs in business. Teacher Certification
Effective fall 2016, the general business major with an emphasis in teacher certification is no longer available at the undergraduate level. A student interested in seeking a teaching certificate in business and finance 6-12 or technology applications EC-12 will major in general business. Major courses will be tailored to fit the needs of the certification area the student plans to seek. After graduation, students can then take the certification test and apply for admission to the Master of Arts in Teaching program offered through the James I. Perkins College of Education at SFA. General Electives
The student may be required to complete additional elective hours to complete the degree. University Core Curriculum co-requisite lab hours will be applied to this area of the degree. Special Problems
No more than three hours of Special Problem courses and no more than three hours of Internship courses may count toward a bachelor’s degree in the Nelson Rusche College of Business . Internship courses may count only as electives and may not count toward completion of major course requirements in accounting.
Grade Requirements
- A grade of at least C in each first-year English course (ENGL 1301 , ENGL 1302 )
- A C average in work completed in the major field
- A C average in work completed in the minor field
The required averages are based on those SFA courses taken in each category that are included in the student’s official degree plan (CAPP). Transfer and advanced placement coursework are not included in GPA calculations.
In-Residence Requirement
Undergraduate Degree Programs
Undergraduate degrees require at least 25% semester credit hours completed in-residence.
Undergraduate degrees with 120 hours total degree program hours require a minimum of 30 advanced (upper level) in-residence semester credit hours. The in-residence hour requirement will be fulfilled as part of the individual discipline major, which includes as least 12 advanced in-residence semester credit hours. Minor requirements also may contribute to the total in-residence hours as at least six advanced in-residence semester credit hours are required. The balance of in-resident hours will be fulfilled through additional advanced semester credit hours and may include further major and minor coursework.
Undergraduate degrees with more than 120 total degree program hour requirements will ensure semester credit hours for the specific discipline include at least 25% of total semester credit hours in-residence.
