All students completing a Bachelor of Arts in criminal justice, english, history, media and communication, modern languages, political science, psychology, sociology must complete the following requirements:

Note


  • Only three hours for MATH 2313  can be counted in the Core Curriculum. The fourth hour, MATH 2113 , will be counted elsewhere in the degree.
  • Lab hours for Life and Physical Sciences courses are counted elsewhere in the degree.

College Requirements


Language Proficiency


Complete foreign language proficiency through the SFA 2312 level.

Additional Languages, Philosophy and Culture


Major


A departmental major of at least 30 semester hours, but not more than 36 hours, with at least 18 hours advanced and at least 12 hours advanced at SFA.

Minor


An academic minor of at least 18 semester hours, but not more than 24 semester hours, with at least nine advance hours and at least six advanced at SFA.  This requirement does not apply to the B.A. in Mass Communication with additional MCM courses.

Advanced, Residence and Grade Requirements


  • Thirty-three or more semester hours of advanced (3000 and/or 4000 level) course work.
  • A minimum of 30 semester hours of advanced coursework work in residence at SFA.
  • A grade of at least “C” in each freshman English (ENGL 1301  and ENGL 1302 ) course.
  • A “C” average at SFA; a “C” average in major courses taken at SFA; and a “C” average in minor courses taken at SFA.  These required averages are based on those courses in each category that are included in the student’s official degree plan.

Hours to total 120


Enough additional semester hours to make a total of at least 120 semester hours.  To be discussed with advisor.

Writing Requirement


All students completing a degree program in the College of Liberal and Applied Arts  must meet the standards for writing in the discipline set by their major.  Students should see their departmental advisor for those standards.

Double-dipping Rule


Double-dipping is using the same course to fulfill two different requirements in a degree plan. Courses can be double-dipped between the core or college requirement courses with major or minor courses. A maximum 7 hours may be double-dipped between the major and the minor. Anything beyond this must be approved by the college’s associate dean.
