MGMT 3395 - Sports Entrepreneurship and Innovation Credit(s): 3
Entrepreneurship and innovation are major growth areas in the field of sports business as many sports management professionals have decided to start their own businesses as well as innovate within existing businesses. This course is designed to give undergraduate students both theoretical and practical exposure to issues related to entrepreneurship and innovation in the sports industry. Additionally, the course provides an understanding of the basic business responsibilities of sports business entrepreneurs and how they can influence sports programs. Special emphasis is placed on discovering and evaluating opportunities, describing and applying the innovation process to existing business models; determining and acquiring needed resources, and managing the start-up and growth phases of new and innovative business model creation. The operational requirements of a wide range of innovative sport businesses are considered. Learning will occur through student research, participative learning, and oral presentation of the many components of the course’s content.
