Objectives

The digital computer is one of the most useful devices developed by mankind. Computer science is the discipline concerned with the study of this device and how it can be used to process information and help solve complex problems. The computer science curriculum is designed to allow the future computer specialist to obtain a broad education coupled with detailed knowledge in computer science sufficient to lay a foundation for professional competence in the computing field. Non-specialists also may take computer science courses that will acquaint them with computing capabilities applicable to their main field of endeavor. Our programs in computer science, computer information systems, and information technology prepare students for vibrant careers in our technology-driven economy.

Computer Science Program Accreditation

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the General Criteria and the Computer Science Program.

Student Organizations

The Computer Science Club is sponsored by the Department of Computer Science and is open to all students. This organization should be of particular interest to students who desire to become acquainted with the computing profession, computing professionals and students with similar interests.

Membership in Upsilon Pi Epsilon, the international computer science honor society, is for select juniors, seniors and graduate students who maintain specified scholastic standards. Students who want to be considered for this honor should consult the Delta Chapter faculty advisor or a student officer.
