Early Childhood Laboratory
The Early Childhood Laboratory offers early care and education to infants, toddlers and preschoolers, and provides the opportunity for SFA students and faculty to engage in observation, interaction and research with young children. The early childhood program at SFA is recognized as one of the most outstanding programs of its kind in the nation. The teacher preparation program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation, and the children’s program is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Serving more than 1,000 college candidates and 100 young children each year, this dynamic program continues to meet the demands of a diverse university, community and state.
SFA Charter School
The Charter School is state-funded and operates as a public school. The school offers the James I. Perkins College of Education an opportunity to build on the great success achieved with the Nacogdoches ISD/SFA Charter School partnership in operation on the SFA campus since August 1998. The dynamic interaction of the Department of Education Studies, Early Childhood Laboratory and the Charter School allows the College of Education to conduct cutting-edge research in early childhood education, creating a one-of-a-kind center for East Texas and the state.
Study-Abroad Programs
Candidates can study the educational systems of various countries, such as Costa Rica, England, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain and Switzerland. Faculty and candidates visit local schools, have audiences with educators and governmental officials, and experience cultural events and sites. The university’s Office of International Programs  coordinates these experiences.
